Policy & Influencing

Single Parent involvement is integral to the everyday work of OPFS, putting parents and children at the heart of our strategies and decision-making processes. OPFS uses practice and single parents lived experience to change policy. Some examples include: the Child Poverty (Scotland) Act has single parents as a priority group because of OPFS influencing work with MSP’s; Scottish school clothing grants must now be set at a minimum level of £100 due to OPFS leading evidence based influencing work with the Scottish Cabinet Secretary and COSLA .

School Clothing Grants

Scottish school clothing grants must now be set at a minimum level of £100 due to a partnership led by OPFS, CPAG and PTC  leading evidence based influencing work with the Scottish Cabinet Secretary and COSLA .

Child Poverty (Scotland ) Act

The Child Poverty (Scotland) Act aims to reduce child poverty to less than 10% by 2030. OPFS has campaigned for many years for single parent families to be recognised as a group which requires tailored support therefore we are very pleased that children living in single parent families have been identified as a priority group for Scottish Government when preparing their Delivery Plans.
